Susie - The money you save by buying block cheese will pay for the eggs! :P If you live near farmland drive around and look for signs, often people are selling their own eggs for next to nothing. I get a dozen farm eggs for half of what I would pay for supermarket free range and 1/4 less than supermarket battery egg. Granted I can't always get them, but it's nice when I can!

Wow!! The only thing I don't do on your list is grate my own cheese and buy free range eggs. I am going to start doing my own cheese again but I don't know if I can make the leap to free range.

Hi Jeni - Thanks! Keep at it, glad you're finding some joy - I LOVE cooking... can you tell!? :)

Hi Mare - I have a Braun 500W. If money is not an issue get the highest wattage you can with a good brand name and you should be fine. For more power again you might want to check with restuarant suppliers as they would stock the extremely heavy duty versions. Good luck!

Hi! I've been trying to select the right immersion blender for a long time. Which one is it you have been using (so I can look up the specs) and for how long? I cook gluten-free and need something that can hold up under all the pressure.

Thanks,

These are great tips! I am new to cooking (after many years of fighting the "women have to cook" stigma I have come to thoroughly love the action of doing so) and really appreciate this information.
