Saving with Grocery Store Fliers On-line

We don't get the newspaper at the Frugal Upstate house.  When DH and I were first married we subscribed to the newspaper and we never seemed to have time to read it. They just got stacked up in a pile that seemed to lurk their with an accusatory attitude.  Finally we faced up to the fact that we just don't get around to reading it most days and trashed the subscription.

The downside to not getting the paper is I don't get the grocery store fliers or the coupon inserts. The coupons actually don't bother me too much I am not particularly brand loyal-I'll pretty much buy whatever is cheapest.  I have found that I usually can buy things at the regular price at Aldis or Save a lot cheaper than what the brand item would be with a coupon.

Missing the store fliers, on the other hand, bothers me.  When I don't get the grocery store fliers I wind up missing out on the  loss leaders / sales. Then I realized that you can get many grocery store fliers online! Viola!

It does take a little bit longer to scan through them than it does to flip through a paper copy, but it saves time over driving around to all the stores and picking up their fliers (which I never did-I just missed out on the sales unless I happened to be going to the store anyway).

Finding the fliers for your local stores is pretty easy-just google their names and see what comes up.

Here are some examples of fliers that are available in my area.  Sometimes to access the fliers online you will need to have the store's grocery card.  That's how the TOPS food stores work.  These cards are usually free, you just have to go into the store to sign up for it.

I'm New York mama Jenn from Frugal Upstate. Since 2006, I've been blogging about simple ways to save money doing simple things you've never even considered. One hint: it's not all about clipping coupons and buying on sale! My motto is use what you've got, get creative and save. I started by stretching what I had for longer, reusing stuff and making do without all the little needless extras. Along the way, I figured out that frugality is fun—like the way you feel when you find a designer dress at a yard sale for $5.
