With a month left before my son starts school, I decided we needed something new and fun to keep us occupied. Each day in August, we've been focusing on a different letter of the alphabet. This is an activity that can you can put as much or as little time and effort as you'd like. Go alphabetically or skip around the alphabet. Plan ahead – if you'll be going swimming on Thursday, make that your 'S' day. Here are some ideas you can use to celebrate your day:

- Draw pictures that start with the letter
- Look through books or magazines to find the letter
- Cut out pictures of things that start with the letter and create a collage
- Visit a special place that starts with the letter, such as the zoo on 'Z' day (or on 'A' day, since you'll see animals)
- Have a meal or special snack that starts with the letter
- Read books that start with the letter or have characters that start with your letter
- Listen to songs that start with your letter
- Use blocks to build your letter

This is a great idea! I wish I would have thought of it sooner with my daughter.
