You really need to figure out what you want to get out of Social Media before you jump right into it. It can be very all consuming. It can suck your time, your energy and your focus away from other mportant things in your life.

That sounds scary, doesn't it? Almost as if Social Media is something evil. It truly isn't. But, because Social Media is so much fun at the same time that it is also so useful it is a time consuming activity.

The point I'm trying to make is that it doesn't have to be "all consuming". What you need to do is choose wisely on the Social Media activities you are going to participate in. You need to figure out which of these activities deserve your time and energy.

You need to first ask yourself, "What do I want to get out of Social Media?" and then go from there. Not all Social Media activities are the same or should be treated the same.

For example, If you are looking to meet other women in the Detroit area who have a passion for painting…. using Social Media is the perfect way to locate women with the same passion. However, using video sharing (a social media activity) would not be the best method to do this. Below, I have listed some ways to help determine which Social Media Activity is what you should spend your time participating in.

Note: I am only discussing the methods to use Social Media activities in a personal way. There are so many ways to use these same Social Media activities in a professional way, but we are not discussing that at this time.
