Working in “the industry” requires me to be intimately familiar with the FDA’s website. (I must admit that I actually enjoy my daily navigation's through their website but don’t tell my boss that.) Today while I was looking at their homepage it occurred to me that their website is actually a great place for “non-industry” people to get information too.

The FDA’s website contains a lot of information geared toward “non-industry” people.
They have a page dedicated to information that Consumers want/need/should know:
- Pet Food Recalls
- Food safety for moms-to-be
- Information about buying medication on-line
- The latest news on dietary supplements
They have the latest updates on everything from water safety, to food and drug recalls, to the approval of this year’s Flu vaccines. (Note-To-Self: make an appointment for the kids to get their flu shots)
They have a page dedicated to information on children’s health:
- Medicines
- Vaccines
- Therapeutics
They even have a bright and colorful Kid’s activity site filled with facts, games, quizzes, and information that is important to kids.

- Braces for your teeth
- All about Animals: Are you ready to own a dog
For those die hard historians like me, you can even find all the history behind why the FDA came into existence, how the laws have evolved over time, and why the FDA regulates the products they do. (They include some great old pics too)

You can learn all about “The research with human volunteers to determine the effects of food preservatives on digestion and health that the press dubbed the "Poison Squad"
(and my family thinks they have it bad because they have to eat my cooking)
The website is very easy to navigate through. Their search engine has yet to steer me wrong. If you have a few minutes I would highly recommend taking a look.
Did you enjoy seeing those old "medicine" pictures as much as I did? Have you ever gone to the FDA website to get information? If so, I would love to hear about it. Just leave your story in the comments section.
