I mentioned last week that I was loving Brandon Heath's new CD and a couple of books. Today I want to talk about one of those books.
One of the biggest hindrances to God working freely in our lives is us getting in His way — our unwillingness to work with Him.
Can't you just hear Him saying, "Help me help you!"?
That's the point of a book I'm reading called Soul Revolution, written by my pastor, John Burke. But even if I didn't know John, I'd be able to recognize that the point of his book is a vitally important part of the Christian life: learning to invite God into your daily life in a very pragmatic, hourly sense.
Burke calls it the 60-60 Experiment: for sixty days, remind yourself of God's presence once an hour. Talk to Him; check in, ask for His help.
The big idea is to stay connected to God, which is often forgotten in people's crazy days. The reminder is easily accomplished with a timer or watch that beeps hourly to remind you to stop and think of God. Unfortunately, it's also easy for fallible humans to fall into the habit of ignoring their timer beeps!
My friend Becky designed the accompanying web site with blogs and forums where people can share their progress online, privately within their study groups or with the church (or web site) as a whole. Burke said in this week's message that there are two Texas state penitentiaries now studying the book as well — exciting news!
You don't have to have the book to do the experiment. You just have to be willing to "do life" with God.
Are you willing?

Great tip on the book Lisa! I will HAVE to check it out! Thanks for the link! ~Melissa in Mel's World
This book sounds very interesting. I definitely am going to look for it at the bookstore; thank you for sharing!!
I think Brandon Heath is participating in the group concert benefiting International Justice Mission. I'll have to check out his music.
Lisa,
I love the concept of this book. It just sort of seems to fit with the "mistfit" mentality of my group of friends, so I might have to pick it up, read it, and then share it with all of them.
Thanks for the info!
