Backing Up Your Computer & Renter's Insurance

family Backing Up Your Computer & Renters Insurance

This past week I have been extremely thankful for back-up cd's & my hard-drive… as well as renters insurance!

Monday I started to notice that whenever I was left my computer sit for a pre-determined amount of time it would shut down. I would return and it would no longer be on. Then it progressed to multiple tabs opening in Internet Explorer (I know, don't shoot me, I use IE). Finally Tuesday afternoon, the computer would turn on but nothing worked. No buttons could be clicked, nothing could be typed. I had tried since Monday to run my virus scanner but it suddenly had  a data file missing, hmmm.

Needless to say, having my external hard-drive and all of our photos and important 'internet' information on CD's was a life saver. I would of lost everything if it had been on my computer hard-drive. When storing important information on your computer make sure to make back-ups. Heck, do double back-ups!

I keep my photos in three different places: CDs, External Hard-drive, Web Server Space. This way the odds are low that all three would be destroyed at once. If my house was to light on fire (God Forbid) I would still have the photos on my web server. Problem solved!

Talking about fires brings me to renters insurance. Tuesday evening we left to run a few errands and upon returning we had fire trucks galore. Long story short my property ends at the edge of a lake. In order to get to said lake you have to go through the woods and down a hill. Apparently some kids decided to make this trip and light a brush fire. We had smelled something burning all day however a lot of people burn trash and weed clippings in our area, so we did not assume anything abnormal was going on. We could not see the fire since it was down the hill.

We were thankful that the fire crew put the fire out but even more thankful that we have renters insurance if the worst was to happen.

You would be shocked at how little it costs for renters insurance. We pay $18.00 a month and are slowly saving enough to start paying a lump sum when it comes up for renewal, we will save more money this way. Check out your insurance company if your a renter and look into renters insurance, you never know when you are going to need it.

Having a few things in place such as back up copies of important items along with insurance will give everyone a little peace of mind.
