I love books. I spent countless Saturday mornings with my dad at our local library browsing, reading, and eventually checking out a towering stack of books to devour during the coming week.
As my oldest (I have a daugher, son, son – all in the space of four-and-a-half years) grew into her toddler years, I looked forward to creating new Library Day memories with her and her brothers. But as my oldest son hit his toddler years, I realized that I needed to expand my library forays to find books that featured something more than princesses, ballerinas, and all things pink and glittery.
One of the first boy books I came across was this one-Rhinos Who Play Baseball by Julie Mammano. It is a great book for little boys. Filled with baseball slang and engaging illustrations, you and your little guy follow the team of Rhinos through the ups and downs of a baseball game. At the end of the story, extra emphasis is given to reinforce the ideas of good-sportsmanship and teamwork.
If you’re not sure what it really means to, “throw a yakker to the plate,” you can check the handy glossary in the back of the book to help you explain all those nifty baseball phrases to your little boy. Each of Mammano’s many Rhino books features just such a glossary – brilliant!
Another favorite Rhino book of my boys (and my daughter – many of these books feature girl Rhinos, too), is this one:
If your little boy loves fire engines, this book is sure to capture his imagination.
Other titles by Mammano include Rhinos Who Surf, Rhinos Who Snowboard, Rhinos Who Play Soccer, and Rhinos Who Skateboard.
All the Rhino books are fun for both boys and their moms, making it easy to spend story time bonding with your little guy.
You can find Marianne online at Writer-Mommy where she stays up waaay too late at night, scribbling her way through life one word at a time.

Thanks, always looking for books for my lil guy
