As a niche contributor here at Blissfully Domestic, I provide information to YOU.  Specifically you who are parents of special needs children.

So…  What is it YOU need information on?  What questions do you have?  What resources do you need?  What terminology do you not understand?  Nothing is off limits, whether your child suffers from something "mild" or "severe" – note the quotes.  I know that's relative and subjective (trust me.)

My job here is to help you navigate this world of special needs parenting.  So to quote a film, Help Me Help You!  Comment away!

Found "unique" by all who know her, you can find Michele at her blog, Sparks and Butterflies, or at her business Vineyard Virtual Services.

I think that explaining the difference between therapies is important. Many parents don't understand why their children need occupational, physical and speech therapy.

Also, you could talk about the different physicians available such as physiatrist, developmental pediatrician and developmental optometry.

I am available is you need any help.

  2. for new dx, i agree with the previous commenter. plus i think some general thots about how different states have different programs and how to get linked up to them would be helpful. there are lots of websites out there with info for special needs kiddos and families. its just finding them that takes so much time.

my son is more severe (non-verbal) so signing and pecs and other communication is huge for us. any help in that area is great.

  3. How to be an advocate for your child and still be a nice person:) Dealing with the emotions of not having a "perfect" child.

  4. It would be great to get info on any educational aides and methods to help the child at home. My son is mildly autistic but has needs extra help with math. I am combing through the wbe and asking anybody for workbok or computer program to help him. If i could get thatin one site would relieve alot of the anxiety and stress. Thanks

Food allergies, Eczema, and Asthma….a lot of children are ending up with these conditions. It's always great to find new info on these disorders. And yes children who suffer from these (min has a severe case of all 3) are in my eyes special needs. They affect them physically, socially, and emotionally.

This is why my son my be home schooled for the next few years.

Is this category just for people who are parents of special needs children? Or do you inclued in special needs those who are disabled parents?

I'm a disabled wife and mom. I'm often in a wheelchair. I cannot walk, sit, or stand for any extended period of tme. I can only be on my feet for 5 minutes, tops. Sitting is only possible for an hour at the most, sometimes only 2 minutes. I long to be blissfully domestic. It is so hard with the difficulties I face. I learn to work around the challenges and do what I can.

I'd love to hear how other disabled wives and mothers are blissfully domestic. It would be great to share mothering tips, easy recipes and crafts, physical helps, etc.

Thank you all for your responses! We are working behind the scenes here to launch the Special Needs Bliss channel in March, which is why there has been little to no activity here recently.

Your ideas and requests have been logged and we are working on trying to reach many areas of special needs in the coming months. Please be patient while we get up and running.

We look forward to connecting with all of you moms out there in this very niche area of parenting. Being a special needs mom myself, it can be overwhelming, for sure. We are hoping to be one of your favorite resources for information and and some "mom" time with others who know what you are going through.

Feel free to continue to add suggestions and contact us!

  8. As a mom of a child with special needs, dev delay, deaf and limited expressive speech, I am always wondering if parents have a need for adaptive clothing. Buttons & snaps are difficult for my son to manipulate and I want him to be as independent as he can be. I would love to know if other families are having this issue as well and where they purchase adaptive clothes or if they have any suggestions. We're thinking of adding a section to our store so any info would be great! Thanks, Janelle from AClassicTale.com
