Cheap Therapy – Ball Pit!

family Cheap Therapy Ball Pit!My son loves the ball pit at the local My Gym.  it is the one thing he gravitates to every time we are there and it calms him down.  After pricing everything through a therapy catalog, it would be at least $250 or more to recreate one at home.  So I found a frugal option that both my kids love for play and we use it as a calming tool for my son's SPD.

You will need:

A blow-up swimming pool that should be deep enough for the child to be submerged in ball pit balls, if it will be used a a calming tool.  Ours is 8' long and about 20" deep.  I paid $7 on clearance for the pool.  We also considered using a large Rubbermaid type container so he could sit in it and we could put the lid on it when we were done.  That would have cost about $20.  Do not use a pop up type pool as the balls do not provide enough force on the walls of the pool to keep it standing up.

Ball pit balls. We have about 1400 right now.  Some we got on clearance, some we paid full price for at the local mega store for.  It cost us about $80 for all the balls.

Space for the ball pit. Ours is in a corner of our family room.

For $87 total, my kids can have fun and we have a useful therapy tool for my son at home.
