Consignment Store Shopping: My New Fav

Red velvet dress with matching red velvet drawstring purse: $10

Black patent leather shoes: $5

Total cost of my daughter's cute Christmas outfit: $15

The amount I paid for my daughter's cute Christmas outfit: $0

The consignment store where I shop gives in store credit for all items that you "donate" which are then purchased by other customers.  I had $16 in store credit which I used to "buy" her outfit. So in reality I spent $0 on my daughter's outfit. You can't beat $0!

Consignment store shopping has become my new favorite way to Reduce and Reuse.  Since kids outgrow clothes so quickly they don't get a chance to wear them out before they don't fit them anymore. Which means that you can buy "used" clothes that look brand new.

Consignment stores are especially great places to purchase seasonal outfits like snow pants, rain boots, swimsuits, snow jackets, Halloween costumes, and Christmas dresses! If kids are only going to wear these things once or twice why buy new?

Not only is consignment store shopping a great green way to shop it is also a  great money saving way to shop.

While I was there I also found a nice shirt and pair of corduroys for my son ($8).

So, for $7 I purchased both my children nice outfits for Christmas.

Wow! You just can't beat that.

Now, what should I do with all the money I saved?  Latte anyone?

  1. I wish I could find a store like that here in NM. There are a few called Thrift stores but we can't trade. Plus they only take certain items. But we do take a lot of the kids clothes to the Domestic Shelter here. They are always taking in anything useful.

  2. Donating to a domestic shelter is a great idea!

  3. I don't think our town has a consignment store at this time, but I did find my granddaughter a pretty red "velvet" Christmas jumper with white silky blouse and matching red headband at a yard sale that she helped pick out for $1 this summer! I like to donate our outgrown and unused clothing to FISH. The outfit you found is adorable! What a great deal.

  4. Thanks Dorene. Your $1 outfit sounds like a pretty cute bargain too!

Will you see the new Twilight movie New Moon on Friday?
