Making your own Jesse Tree is fun. It can be as simple or as complex as you'd like to make it. Last year when my daughter was 3 we simply printed out paper ornaments for her to color.
This year we will be making a Jesse Tree Banner with ornaments out of felt. You could also make the ornaments and hang them on a bare branch or a small undecorated fir tree.
Supplies Needed:
- scissors
- tacky glue
- felt squares in the following colors – black, brown, flesh, gold, gray, lavender, light blue, orange, pink, purple, red, royal blue, tan, white, and yellow.
The first ornament is a Sun to represent creation.
- Cut a circle out of yellow felt and a larger circle out of orange felt.
- Cut angles into the orange circle to make rays.
- Glue the yellow circle to the larger orange piece. (I used embroidery floss and whip stitched around the yellow circle to fasten the two pieces.)
Read Genesis 1, 2:1-4. After your ornament has dried hang it on your tree.

I really want to do this this year, but haven't been sure where to start. I am so glad you are doing this!!
Yay! I'll be posting new ornaments every day through Advent and finish up with 12 Days of Christmas ornaments as well.
Last year we just used a bare branch from our front yard. I weighted it down with sand in a decorative pot and it served as the centerpiece on our craft table.
This year we are making a banner. If you'd like to do that, you will need a large rectangular piece of black or blue felt. And a dark green piece for the tree shape. I just cut a Christmas Tree shape from the green and tacky glued it to the background. I will go back later and stitch along the edges so it will last longer.
