Decoupage is a fun way to update an item and there are all sorts of things you can use to decoupage with…including scrapbook paper and tissue paper. One project I recently did involved a 50 cent letter I bought at a yardsale that I first painted black and then decided that it needed a little jazzing up. So, off to Hobby Lobby for some leopard tissue paper and I was ready to start.
Mod Podge has been around forever and is still fun to play with (I prefer the matte version). It's just like glue…smooth it over whatever you are decoupaging and then press the tissue paper on top, adding more decoupage over it, smoothing with the brush.
Don't worry about the little wrinkles, it will be fine once it's dry and it's not meant to be totally smooth. A few wrinkles are fine!
After it was all dry, I hung it in my office nook. Look around and see what you might want to decoupage…it can really change an item from good to BETTER!

It's amazing what a little tissue paper can do for ambiance! I save scraps from magazines for future projects if something beautiful catches my eye. When I'm feeling creative, I pull out the old' collage file and go to town!
Great job, Rhoda! I've never tried decoupage, but this makes it look easy enough even for ME to try. Thanks! -Julia
Very clever! Thanks for the idea—my children will enjoy working on this craft as an end-of-summer memory.
That's so nice, I love your office nook!
I'm a real big fan of anything ethnic. I used to decoupage for a long time with any kind of papers I could find, but now my favorite is Decopatch paper. I give step by step projects if you want to try. keep the good work!
