Diary of a Fitness Flunky: Goals. Sort of.

Weightloss
I’ve watched enough of Oprah and Dr. Phil to know that if I plan on losing weight, I’m supposed to have GOALS! Goals are good! With goals you can measure your progress, you have something to aim for!

I have to say, I don’t really have exact goals in mind. I’m not sure what I want. As a thirty-three-year-old mother of two, I don’t think that I’ll ever have the physique of an Olympic athlete. But shouldn’t I have goals?? Certainly I have very unrealistic hopes.  Sure, I’d love to be taller, have longer legs, naturally bigger and perky breasts, and perfect skin. Unfortunately, though, I don’t think that any amount of white flour I cut out of my diet or ab crunches that I do will help me achieve those goals.

Realistically, though? There are things that I’d like to see as a result of my attempts at fitness and healthier eating.

Thinner thighs? Yep.

Thinner stomach? You bet.

Thinner upper arms? Oh my goodness YES!

To throw away my size 10 and above clothes away for good? Buh-bye.

Since I don’t own a scale, I have no idea what I weigh…and honestly I’d like to keep it that way. So instead of obsessing over how much I weigh, I’m going to obsess about how my clothes fit. I have a plethora of jeans ranging in sizes from 12 down to size 4. I don’t know if it’s realistic to get into my size 4 jeans ever again after having two babies, but I think? hope? pray? that I’ll be able to get into my size 6 jeans.

So there you have it…goals! Sort of.

  1. I'm in this with you. I think I'm even posting my weight loss journal here (am I? God, I'm awesome at forgetting things) and I have goals. Sort of. But mostly I have a gut that used to not be here and legs that wobble and arms that wave when I do. Eik. Time to change.

Of course, you're the person that got me running last fall so I know you'll motivate me here, too. You're great like that. :-)

  2. I loved your post and I am totally with you. I have similar goals after having two children and I too measure my success by how my clothes fit. The scale is just too depressing for me and doesn't really help me in meeting my goals. It is funny that you posted this. My name is also Jennifer and I am a 33 year old mom of two as well. Good luck to you on meeting your goals. I am working out daily, eating healthy and trying to just live a more active life style. The latter is not too hard with a two year old and a ten month crawler. :)

Do NOT buy the scales! Karma will be on your back from then on and play all sorts of tricks on you via the scales!

My goal…no muffin top in my size 8 jeans!

Will you see the new Twilight movie New Moon on Friday?
