Earth Friendly Diapers

When we decided to start a family I pondered all my choices bottle and diaper wise. I truly wanted choices that were safe, healthy, and especially Earth friendly.

Since our baby was a bit on the small side (well at least his bottom was super small) I wasn't able to try any of my diaper ideas at first (They start at 8 pounds). So I had to use Pampers and eventually Huggies. Both leaving him super soaked and literally drenched for some reason.

Finally now as he is nearing nine pounds I have been able to experiment with my Earth friendly diapers that I have wanted to try.

We are trying two consecutively: Nature Babycare and GDiapers.

For starters we are using Nature's BabyCare diapers (mostly at night),  a disposable diaper where 60% of the content is of biological origin and are biodegradable. (Available at select Targets and Diapers.com)

So far the plus is that they are the same price as average disposable diapers (around 12 dollars for a pack of 44), and that they are very simple looking (no busy cartoons) and super soft.

The con is they need oxygen to biodegrade, thus landfills lacking oxygen won't do.  If you compost you should be fine and well even if you don't at least it seems to be more Earth friendly than the plastic alternatives.  (For more info this is a great article about them) So I can either begin composting or go ahead with my other choice…

Second we are using G Diapers, reusable diapers with flushable inserts avoiding the landfill issue all together.

So far the plus is that they are adorable on baby, and come in the most darling colors!  They are simple as well and not bulky. We just started today and though it seem to take some getting used to I am loving the look of them.

Though if there are any questions, their website is very helpful. There are videos and tutorials. Its getting the hang of the process I think that is the trick.  I hope that I find a simple solution even if its a small one to be more Earth sensitive.

So some great news in my Diaper Challenge! The GDiapers and Nature's BabyCare are both working wonderfully!
Today as the Banker and I were at Babies R Us, we were extremely pleased and surprised to see they carry Nature BabyCare now!!

I was so excited I took pics from my cell. I can now avoid the 2 day wait and shipping charges from diapers.com.
They even have the Nature's BabyCare biodegradable wipes!
Anyone willing to take the "challenge" can now invest a mere 11.99 and see if it works for YOU!
