Fashionably Fast Mama Style

Girls, just because we truly are running on nearly empty, hanging on by a thread and completely sleep deprived doesn't mean we have to look the part! Fashion is all about being put together no matter how much or how little time it takes.

It's 6:00am, the alarm's buzzing and it's time to start the day. Coffee first. Always coffee first. But then, it's time to hit the closet. We all want to grab the yoga pants and hoodie, slip on our clogs and be ready for the day, but just a little bit of extra planning will allow us to quickly look put together with very little effort. And no one needs to know that we had a total of 3 hours of consecutive sleep last night!

1) First and foremost… Clean out your closet!

Donate any clothes that don't fit. Sort by season. There is no reason to have your Bermuda's taking up space when it's heavy sweater time.

2) Go Shopping!

Start with a great pair of dark wash, straight leg jeans. Add a fitted blazer, khaki's, a few t-shirts (and not the ones from your husbands closet) a wrap dress and a cardigan or two.

Don't forget a pair of cute little flats and a pair of tall boots. These pieces will give you a great foundation to start putting outfits together that are sharp but totally practical for preschool to dinner out with the girls.

3) Add some flare with accessories!

Making an outfit go from okay to awesome is easy with a few great accesories. A fabulous handbag makes a huge statement. And fabulous doesn't have to mean expensive. No matter what your budget, find a day bag that is big enough to double as your diaper bag, toy chest and menu planner. Animal prints are still big as well as embossed leather. A bag like thisFrancesco Biasia will last season after season.

After that, all you need are a few chunky beaded necklaces, a bangle or two and you are all set!

4) Get a good haircut!

A great stylist will make your life a hundred times easier and a great haircut will make even the worst hair days bearable. Ask around for referrals. See someone with great hair? Don't be afraid to ask them who does their hair. Go into the appointment with an open mind. Just because you love the new inverted bob with bangs, doesn't mean it's going to work for you. A great stylist will help build a look that is polished and super easy to maintain.

5) Plan!

It may not seem to be realistic at first, but learn to lay out your clothes the night before. A few minutes before bed and after the dishes are done, floors washed, kids bathed and last minute cupcakes baked, take the time to pick out what you want to wear tomorrow. By doing a quick outfit prep you alleviate the frantic "where is that pair of jeans, I swear they were under here last week" moment when the baby is crying and your preschooler is bound and determined to make his own breakfast "right now!"

Just beacause we live in yoga pants, hoodies and clogs in the evenings and weekends doesn't mean it's our uniform. Go forth and be polished, ladies!
