There's a new movie out in theaters called, Fireproof. You may have heard of it as it has caused quite a buzz since it's opening. An independent film from a Christian production company, it debuted in the top five for box office rankings.
If you're not familiar with the movie, this synopsis from MSN Movies gives the basic storyline:
A heroic fireman locked in a failing marriage accepts his father's challenge to take part in a 40-day experiment designed to teach both husband and wife the true meaning of commitment in this faith-based marriage drama starring Kirk Cameron and Erin Bethea. When he's battling blazes, Capt. Caleb Holt (Cameron) adheres to the old firefighter's adage about never leaving your partner behind; back at home, it's an altogether different story.
Naturally, here at Blissfully Wed, we were intrigued by a movie about strengthening our marriages! So we went to The League and asked if any of our Extraordinary Wives had seen the movie and if so, would they please tell us their thoughts on it. We had a great response and the rest of this week we'll share their reviews with you.
Also, Heather of Not a DIY Life, will start a series for us from the book, The Love Dare, which is the tool the characters in the movie use to fireproof their marriage.
Our first review comes from Kim in Sacramento:
Fireproof is a film that gives you a glimpse into the life of a failing marriage. Failure brought on by self centeredness, lack of respect from both partners, and pornography. We see how Satan has used these two people as puppets and witness them drowning as each wave of consequence overtakes them. The husband's demand for respect is as heart piercing as the woman's desire to feel loved.
It is a painful film to watch, but as the Lord places different people in their lives and walks them through this hard time, you see glimmers of hope. As uncomfortable as this movie can get with the subject matter, it also gives you moments of comic relief.
I would not recommend this movie for anyone younger than high school due to the pornographic subject.
Thanks, Kim! Be sure to come back to read more reviews from some of our Extraordinary Wives!

I just got back from watching Fireproof… it was great to see such a different-flavored movie on the regular, big screen
