Autumn is here, the leaves are changing colors, mornings are feeling chillier, and most kids are looking for a few good excuses to spend the last of their warm afternoons outside playing. So why not indulge them a little and spend some time curled up reading over the goodie bag of links I've got for you today?
- Coffee and moms, they go together like peanut butter and jelly. That's why you should run to Starbucks this Monday, September 29th for your free coffee. Starbucks has decided to open their free coffee program to all teachers, including homeschooling ones.
- Shhh, don't tell the kids this. Books are educational. The Horn Book has a great article about homeschoolers and their love of books. I know that my book shelves are overflowing, how about yours?
- Are homeschoolers really saving taxpayers money? In these financial times we need all the savings we can get. According to one mom homeschooling families have saved taxpayers to the tune of $26.7 billion in 2008 alone.
- Are unschoolers just bad parents? That's what John J. Edwards III at the Wall Street Journal seems to be suggesting. If we don't educate kids on a perfect 8-3 M-F schedule, is that really neglect?
- Would you be willing to take part in a study on homeschoolers and socialization? Homeschool Mate has the details on a study taking participants right now for a study on "the development of social skills in homeschooled adolescents."
- Some people just don't like homeschoolers. That's why Mrs. Hannigan has issued a Red Alert for Homeschoolers. A teacher has been writing articles for Google's Knols about homeschooling that have been less than accurate. See if you can help set the record straight.
When not surfing the web for fun stuff to share Summer is hiding from her kids and blogging about life at Wired For Noise.

Hope you're teaching some grammer and spelling too while home schooling. The misuse of apostrophes is one of my pet peeves. Hope I'm not being too picky but:
"Shhh, don’t tell the kids this. Books are educational. The Horn Book has a great article about homeschoolers and their love of books. I know that my book shelves are overflowing, how about your’s?"
No need for an apostrophy in yours….
Just sayin'…
Trish
Hi Trish. Thank you for pointing that out. That was actually an editing mistake and will be corrected. I appreciate you calling it to my attention.
Thanks for including my article in this article about the latest news in homeschooling.
