When I'm on a tight budget, decorating is one of the first expenses I cut. But that doesn't mean I have to let my house go. God, in His creation, has provided us with beautiful decor, and best of all it's free. All you have to do is go outside to take advantage of it!
Here are some ideas to get you started.
Fresh Flowers
A bouquet of fresh flowers from your garden makes your home look inviting and smell wonderful. It needn't be expensive or fancy. I think a collection of wildflowers is gorgeous!
You don't even need a fancy vase to display them. A mason jar is perfect for showing off flowers from your garden! It's simple and doesn't upstage the beauty of the flowers.
If you have roses, you could cut the rose heads off and float them in a shallow dish filled with water. It's fragrant, and a bit different than just displaying a bouquet of roses.
If you're really ambitious, you could dry a bouquet of flowers by hanging it upside-down on your wall. When they're dry, keep them hanging or display them in a jar.
Fruit
I love to decorate with fruit for something a little different. I have a glass cake dish, and sometimes I fill it with fresh fruit and display it on my table. No cake dish? No problem? Just use a regular dish to display your fruit.
A benefit of displaying fresh fruit is that it encourages healthy (and frugal) snacking!
Shells
Next time you're at the beach, see how many shells you can collect. When you get home, fill a pretty jar with them and display them in the bathroom. The same can be done with pretty rocks.
The possiblities of decorating with nature really are endless. What are some ways you've decorated by bringing the outside in?
