Sometimes all it takes is a few updates in a room to give you a completely different feel. Recently, I did a redesign for a client and first, we moved her furniture around for a much more pleasing arrangement. She is home all day with a little one and really wanted a pretty space to live in. With a budget of $1000, a few items were purchased for the livingroom, diningroom, and foyer to cozy up the space and make it feel more personal. She desperately need an infusion of color to the room too, so the accessories came to the rescue.
Here's a before of the livingroom. This young couple spends a lot of time in this room, but it doesn't have a cozy feel. You can see the furniture was spread around the room, hugging the walls and not living up to potential.
Just by rearranging the furniture to a cozier placement adjacent to the fireplace, adding pillows and a throw to the sofa, a colorful area rug and chennile drapery panels, the room feels better already.
We moved on to the foyer and added a large black mirror over the foyer table for an instant update:

And AFTER:
Another area in the livingroom was cozied up by moving a chair and side table to this spot. With the addition of a pretty red lamp, a chocolate with greenfern pillow for the chair, as well as a new print on the wall, this area became a beautiful focal point as guests enter the front door.
It really is the small changes sometimes that add up to a big bang for the buck. We all want a pretty home to live in and it doesn't have to break the bank to get there. If you can only afford to do one thing at a time, do it! You'll be surprised at the changes you can make with just a few well-chosen and artfully placed items.

Beautiful! Love it.
xoxo.
Very nice redesigns. I so wish I had a foyer with wall space.
I agree it doesn't always take much to make a real difference. Nice pictures. Thanks!
