Welcoming a new child into the family is a very special event. When helping a dear friend or family member celebrate a new birth, you can host a baby shower using decorations that are eco-conscious without breaking the bank.
Consider making a onesie banner…
Here's how you do it:
1. Find 4 solid colored onesies. White works well.
2. Find cute fabric that goes along with the color scheme of the shower or the nursery. Gingham looks especially good against a white onesie.
3. Cut the letters B A B Y out of the fabric. Or, spell out the child's name, if known. Use pinking shears if possible, for easy cutting with a cute edge.
4. Pin each letter to the front of a onesie. Straight pins, safety pins, or diaper pins would work.
5. Using mini or regular clothespins, hang the onesies along a ribbon or rope, just like on a clothesline.
6. Hang in a prominent place of your own choosing.
This decoration can be considered green and thrifty by…
a) Removing the letters and giving the onesies to the mom-to-be as a gift
b) Using organic cotton onesies
c) Using your own child's onesies or ones purchased secondhand
d) Keeping the materials and using them over again for another baby shower
Or any combination of these!
Another green and thrifty decoration is to make a diaper cake as a refreshment table centerpiece. It is fun, easy, and not taxing on the wallet. You can make one out of disposable diapers or cloth pre-folded diapers. The new mom will appreciate it when you present it to her at the end as a gift. Who doesn't love free diapers?

Love your onesie idea. Soooo cute! One of my baby shower hostesses (who had previously taken pregnancy pictures of me and my husband) set up a table of framed belly pictures. It was a nice decoration and a great gift. I bet you could also make wooden wall hanging letters of baby's name.
Exactly how are disposable diapers "green"?
In and of themselves, obviously disposable diapers are not very "green". Cloth is definitely the option to use if you want to be the "greenest" here.
However, keep in mind that many people still use disposables out of choice or because their daycare requires it. Yes, disposables will end up in the landfill, unfortunately. But this decoration will at least serve a purpose first, instead of going directly into the trash after the party.
