Green Toy Giveaway

My husband has been very supportive of my efforts to “Go Green”. He will use our reusable bags whenever he goes shopping, he will buy local and organic whenever possible, he will mulch the leafs for composting, and he will do it all without complaining (Thanks Hubby!)

Recently I sent him on a seemingly impossible mission; to find a Made in the USA, non-lead based painted toy for my daughter to take to a birthday party. Boy did he ever succeed!

health Green Toy Giveaway

He found an eco-friendly brand of toys called Green Toys

Green Toys are made in the USA from recycled milk jugs without external coatings (which means no lead based paint!)

According to Green Toys:

  • Every step of the process, from milk container recycling to toy production to final assembly, occurs in California.
  • They reprocess the milk jugs into HDPE plastic (a safe plastic).
  • They even package the toys in recycled corrugated boxes with no plastics, cellophane or twist-ties, and are 100% recyclable.

I am so excited to let you know that the kind folks at Greentoys.com are offering Blissfully Domestic readers the chance to win one of their eco-friendly toys (and just in time for Christmas!)

What a cute toy. Let's see.. we're living greener one step at a time. We've taken to only using reusable bags for grocery shopping, but also at regular stores. I've collected bags from every place that offers one, so my bag collection is multi-colored and different sized.

Our church switched to using real plates and cups for our weekly breakfast bar. Sure, there are a few dishes to do, but it's worth it.

  2. We compost everything possible, including dryer lint and hair from haircuts.

  3. We are using homemade cleaners instead of using toxic cleaners in our home. It saves money, too :)

  4. "green" toy that's also adorable? Count me in, please! I can add this to my other green efforts: composting kitchen scraps and garden waste, using compact fluorescent bulbs, turning down the heat and using a programmable t-stat, and reusable shopping bags!

  5. I love that tea set, I actually have been thinking of buying it for my daughter for Christmas. As far as living green, we've been changing little things here and there. I purchased 5 reusable grocery bags that I use every time I go shopping. We also use enviormentally-friendly cleaning products and switched to those energy saving lightbulbs.

  6. We're going greener by actually using the reusable bags I own and by actually putting the recycling out on recycle day (instead of trash day).

  7. hi! i just LOVE this post. what a great find! this would be PERFECT for my niece!
I have started using reusable grocery bags (which I made myself!) and reusable coffee cozies instead of the cardboard sleeves at starbucks, and coasters at work instead of cocktail napkins under my drink. I've blogged about all of them!

  8. My little girl would love this! We have been making efforts to go green for a while now, a little at a time. We use the reusable bags for shopping. we recycle our papers, cans, and plastics. We opt to walk whenever we can so we use the car less, and we try to buy or food locally.

  9. Beth

We also use reusable bags for every store we enter. A big change we've made is to stop driving all over the place on various errands; now we plan them out and conserve gas by thinking ahead a few minutes. It's breaking old habits in a really good way – wait, I can buy that here, instead of driving across town to where I'm used to buying it.

  10. Bit by bit, we have changed our ways to be much 'greener'. I take my own bags shopping (and people have finally stopped staring at me! :) ), we recycle everything we can (and pay for the privilige), my husband mulches grass clippings rather than bagging them, I do in fact wash the baggies (ugh), and we basically just try to think about what we are doing. For example, if my daughters don't drink all the water in their (BPA free) water bottles at school, I use that water in the dogs dishes or to water plants. It has become such a way of life for us that I'm surprised when others do things differently.

  11. I love it! We have been going green a step at a time. I started by using recycled bags at grocery stores. I try to combine errands into one trip. I unplug almost everything that is not being used. We recycle paper, plastic, metal, and cardboard. I have started making my own cleaners with vinegar and baking soda. My favorite cleaner is water and vinegar with essential oil. Also, when the neighborhood got a epidemic of fruit flies, I made a trap out of cider vinegar and dish soap.

Count me in on the giveaway!

  12. I love that tea set. I've been taking little steps towards a greener life. Mostly it's been cutting back and replacing things here and there. Washing dishes rather than using paper plates. Cloth diapering. Handing down clothes, making toys from old clothes.

  13. That's a great tea set. We're living greener by always using our reusable cotton string bags when we go shopping. Natural homemade cleaners or earth-friendly cleaners. Cloth Diapers. No more plastic bottles we only use Klean Kanteens and Siggs. Last year we had to buy a second vehicle, instead of buying a car we bought a scooter which my husband uses to get to work everyday.

This is on my wish list for my youngest daughter! I'm doing several things ~ canvas bags for shopping, recycling as much as possible, reduce water use, keeping heat lower, making sure to turn off computer while not in use or at least hibernating it when it will be out of use for a short time, pulling plugs while not in use, using rechargeable batteries, buying used, donating unwanted things instead of throwing out, driving less. Those are some of the more common things that I can think off of the top of my head.

  15. In our family we try and buy the most energy effecient light bulbs we can, we recycle our plastic bags, and we always turn down the heat when we leave for the day and make sure and turn off all of the lights when we are not in the room.

  16. I have been on a journey over the past few years to live greener. Here are a few things we do: CLoth napkins, no baggies in kids' lunches, refillable water bottles, locally grown produce, non-toxic cleaning supplies,

  17. I got the hubby to use cloth shopping bags and help my little girl leave the planet happier in gDiapers. I love 'em! http://www.gdiapers.com

  18. That is so cute!

We have made small steps, but good ones I believe

We bring our own bags to the store
We all have our own water bottles that we fill up from home to take with us.
We use cloth napkins instead of paper ones
We use storage containers instead of baggies for lunch goodies and storing food.
    We use new light blulbs
    We recycle more
We use greencleaners. (Still trying one that will get ride of the rust stains.)

    Babysteps, but steps!

  19. My greener life is… I got toys for my two youngest daughters.. and they are all wooden, nothing plastic or toxic.. I love them.

I also only use Shaklee cleaning products, I do not buy any thing that is over the counter.. and toxic!

  20. Too cute! My niece would love this for Christmas! We've been going greener by working to eliminate all those icky chemicals. Buying different shampoos without those sulfates and parabens, dishsoap without petroleum and phosphates. Using glass if we use the microwave. Buying local meat.

We also use energy-saving CFLs (which we're exceptionally careful with because of the mercury). We also wash almost everything on cold and keep our thermostat turned low in the winter and high in the summer. These are just some of the little things that we do.

  21. Hi Lena, you GO girl (go green that is)! I am using my
reusable bags everywhere! Just finished a shopping trip
this morning and used 4. I have been recycling for a long
time now. And I buy ALOT of my own things at thrift stores
and yard sales throughout the year. I've done that for years also. And now I shop that way for my granddaughter and she loves to go with me to yard sales in the summer. I have gotten many many clothes and toys for her that way.
    Keep up the good work!!

  22. The Mom Jen

Those look like fun and if they're green, even better! ;) Thanks for the chance!

  23. Janet F

I use reusable cloth bags instead of plastic and I
    recycle.

    Thank you!

  24. I really try to do my part in being green. I have used reusable shopping bags for about 12 years now, even before it was "cool" to do so. We compost any vegetable matter we accumulate, recycle every tiny scrap of paper, and make our own cleaners out of common household ingredients like vinegar and baking soda, using refillable bottles to hold them.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  25. melanie

we just shopped using our reusable grocery bags. we've been trying to reuse any plastic bags we have to buy (bread bags, etc) so no more ziploc, etc. for us if we can help it.

  26. We are always looking for ways to use what we have, make less waste, and use less overall. Instead of buying more, we try to be creative with what we already have.

This means being creative with leftovers, looking with a creative eye at decor, using basic cleaners like baking soda and vinegar rather. Less stuff, less buying, more using what we have, more creativity.

  27. Jaime

We're definitely trying to reuse and recycle. And I'm trying to eliminate toxic cleaners in the home.

  28. My daughter is turning turning 3 next month. She would absolutely LOVE this!

  29. These toys are awesome! I just recently put up a clothesline to use instead of the dryer.

    Elizabeth

  30. We have switched to compact flourescent bulbs and use reusable shopping bags.

  31. aimee

We are in the process of changing all our light bulbs, use a programmable thermostat and I've gotten into a good habit of taking reusable bags. I LOVE these toys!

  32. We've been trying a few different things. We do mostly hand-made gifts; I make our laundry soap, dishwasher soap, yogurt, bread, and granola; my husband bikes, busses, or runs to work; we use reusable bags. This is such a cute toy! My daughter just started pretending at tea parties the other day, she'd love this!

  33. Like many others our family uses reuseable bags. I make our household cleaners, we use cloth napkins and dishtowels instead of paper napkins and paper towels. I've switched to green clothing detergent no more itching in this household! We are also quite good at recycling and composting and our garden which keeps us in tomatoes at least throughout the winter.

I love these toys and as our son is getting a lovely wooden play kitchen for Chirstmas, this would be a great addition to it.

  34. I'm not sure if the other post will count since I commented there first, but I thought I should come to the original post, just in case. We recycle everything we can, use old t-shirts as rags, donate any clothes or items that we have outgrown and we have changed our lights to the cfl's.

  35. I've gone to using the reusable shopping bags. I always feel very proud of myself when I use them. We, of course, recycle. Recently I've purchased a stainless steel water bottle to cut out on the plastic water bottles.

  36. Hi,

I use "Green" cleaning supplies, reusable shopping bags, and buy as much organic food as possible.

    Great giveaway!

  37. I promote green products wherever I can on my blog. Like this contest:
If you are feeling lucky, I've got two I am running this month:

    Paper Shouts $50 GC

    http://momtrends.blogspot.com/2008/11/paper-shouts-holiday-card-contest.html

And I also walk as many errands as possible. It saves emissions, burns calories and brings me closer to my family.

    Great contest!

  38. We purchase organic foods whenever possible and buy from our local farmers market. We use recycled bags instead of plastic. This toy is adorable! I hope we win! Thanks for the opportunity.

  39. Jenny

We're taking small, but steady steps to become greener. We use cloth diapers on our two youngest. I recently started using baking soda and vinegar rinses instead of shampoo. As soon as I have the time, I want to make some unpaper towels for our kitchen.

    Thanks for the giveaway!
    -Jenny-

  40. Kate

We recycle as much as possible, use canvas grocery bags. I try to re-purpose things or recycle them into craft projects. Before building my first garden this past summer, I started composting. With the weather turning colder, my worms now live in a bucket in the basement.

  41. This would be very cute for my baby:)
We live green as much as possible. We are involved in initiative for building passive and very-low energy houses, we are buying only ecological toys, we use ecover detergents, we are vegetarians, we use only organic medicine…
    There is a lot more.

Wish you all the best with your work!
