If you are like most families this year, you are looking for ways to save money. Christmas can be an especially stressful time for families who are trying to spend responsibly.
Homemade Christmas gifts are a great way to save money and still be able to show your loved ones that you are thinking of them this holiday season. Here are a few ideas for homemade gifts you may want to start on now!
- Scrapbooks: These are great because they can be personalized. A few years ago I made a Christmas scrapbook for my mother-in-law that brought her to tears. You choose the theme, size, and budget for your project. Digital scrapbooking may be a good idea for those wanting to save time and money.
- Sewing projects: From cross-stitching to knitting to quilting- sewing projects are as unique as the creator herself! Find a beginners book or a web-site to teach you how and by Christmas you could be making beautiful scarfs, hats, or wall hangings.
- From your kitchen: Jams, baked goods, sweet treats- everyone loves something homemade and delicious! You could do beautiful gift baskets mixing homemade and store bought goodies. How about a coffee shop gift card, coffee mug, and homemade biscotti?
- Made on your computer: Spend a little money at your office supply store and you can create a variety of gifts on your computer! I have made a cookbook for my newlywed sister, a calendar full of pictures for my mom, and personalized stationery.
Get creative, plan ahead, and see what homemade gifts you can create this year! You might surprise everyone, including yourself!
What are some of your best ideas for homemade Christmas gifts?
Sandra is currently working on a homemade family board game as a Christmas gift! She blogs at Today's Housewife in between changing diapers and kissing boo-boos.

I think you covered everything with those 3 categories!
The only other idea I can think of would be to refinish a piece of furniture for someone, even if it is something they already own (with their permission of course)… not entirely homemade, but most of the cost is just time and elbow grease. That could be very meaningful.
Thanks for sharing your ideas!
We also make our own Christmas wrapping paper. I save all the Christmas cards and throughout the year the kids cut the pictures out and paste them to sheets of paper, color the paper, and decorate it with stickers and such. It keeps them busy and adds a special touch to the homemade gifts we give.
