How do You Define Style and Fashion?

fashion and style How do You Define Style and Fashion?

With all the buzz pointing to Michelle Obama as our newest fashion icon, I sit here and wonder if what we once thought was high fashion is now taking the couture world and flipping it upside down? We are no longer solely looking to ultra-thin supermodels wearing outrageous gowns for fashion advice. Think about it.  A working mom with two small kids, trying to keep her family together while supporting her husband who has just been elected as the newest leader of the free world all while emerging as America's newest fashionista. That's got to have some designers rethinking their game plans for the future of their empires!

It seems to me that Michelle Obama's style is a series of P's. Professional. Practical. Put together. Pretty. Sheath dresses, long lines, straight legs, fitted tops and a-line skirts. A classic look always works and she works it wellI am thrilled to see a real woman in real clothes being recognized as a our newest fashion icon. Her style is something that works for all women, no matter demographics or budget, different body types or demographics.

So now I am putting the ball in your court, Blissfully Domestic readers! Give me your feedback. How do you define style and fashion? Supermodels and Pop Stars gracing the latest cover of Vogue or real women doing their thing and doing it well? Where do you see fashion going in 2009? Do you prefer to stay with the classics or are you adventurous enough to try the latest trends? I challenge you in 2009 to define your personal style and rock it!

  1. While I love looking at the trendy stuff and seeing what new interpretation the top designers come up with, style and fashion is dictated by the everyday woman. When we think of the forties-fifties housewife, we conjure an image of pill-box hats and full skirts. Flappers had their beaded sheaths, seventies chicks had their Boho tops and muumuus. These weren't trends, they were everyday styles that the ordinary woman wore.
