How to Decorate A Room (part 2)

Today I am going to talk about choosing an inspiration piece for your room.

If you choose something that you love, that inspires you, you always have a smile on your face when you walk into that room.  If you are a collector, you probably have a million inspirations to choose from.

My personal choice for our living room is my collection of primitive masks.  They are a main focal point of the room and are definately a conversation piece.  But your inspiration piece could be the couch you have to decorate around, a special pillow or throw or a photo or piece of art that really moves you.

Keep in mind the style that you are considering for the room, if you like shabby chic or cottage style, then a group of primitive masks really won't be the best choice for your room.  Likewise, a delicate teapot collection probably won't look it's best in an ultra modern room.

Notice I am not talking about a "themed" room…I believe that these can be fun and playful, but often they ilook dated or you can grow tired of them quickly.  So if you love animal print, then definately use a pillow, throw or even a rug…but don't use them all in the same space!

Once you choose your special piece, next is the fun part…shopping!
