Yesterday, two entertainers announced what the tabloid media had been spinning for months — that they are gay.

Clay Aiken, who found a modicum of success riding the American Idol gravy train, revealed that he is, in fact, gay. He recently became a new father; he posed with his son on the cover of People Magazine.
"Yes, I'm gay!" he proclaims. To which I reply, "Yes, I've known… for like YEARS."

Yesterday was a big news day for Lindsay Lohan as well. While being interviewed on Dr. Drew's Loveline radio show, Lindsay finally confirmed rumors that have been swirling for ages: She is indeed dating DJ Samantha Ronson, and they have been together for "A very long time."
Again. I know this. Why has it taken these two celebrities so long to figure it out?
Meanwhile, I wonder, "How would I explain this to my daughters if they were old enough to read headlines at the grocery check out?" How DO you explain this to children?

I found that ironic too, that everybody has known about these forever but it's presented as "Breaking News!".
My first thought when I saw that 'People' cover was, "Gee, that kid is really going to want that in his baby album."
I am not kidding– my 16 year old sent me a text message about those two people today. Her exact words were, "OMG Clay Aiken is gay and Lindsay Lohan is dating a woman. What is this world coming to?" (I took a picture of the message because I'm probably going to blog about it.) This is crazy, crazy stuff. I hate that our kids are having to see this junk every day in the checkout lines. I guess you could turn it into a learning experience and something to talk about, but should you have to when they're so young? I just don't get it.
