Bonnie, one thing I won’t have in a bedroom is a tv…unless it’s a studio. I grew up in a house with only one tv and we were happy most of the time (ok, a few tv fights). For years we only watched movies, which limited our tv-watching time and made it more intentional. There wasn’t any chance for aimless channel flipping.

Sometimes we also watch stuff on hulu on our computers, so I occasionally bring one in there when I’ve got a big sewing project so I can watch online or watch a DVD. But our only tv is in the living room.

Mrs. M…I am so glad you are thinking about making your room a refuge. Sometimes multi-purposing a room makes it less restful. Another big distraction is a TV, although I know a lot of couples like one in their rooms. I think you are smart to keep the computer out. I know I am totally hooked on mine so it has to stay out of our room! Thanks for reading and commenting!

Ours hasn’t really gotten that way yet, but I could see it becoming that way. As it is, our lighting in there is broken so we don’t spend much time in it.

It’s a great refuge at night, or at least the bed is. But maybe I should think of it as a refuge from my computer, etc, as well. It’s where my sewing table/desk is, but I don’t bring the computer in there much so I can keep some boundaries.

My bedroom is my favorite room in my house. It’s not always perfect but it’s my space and I have all the things that I love in there. Great fabrics, tons of pillows, a giant window, pictures of my amazing girls, enough storage to organize all my junk and of course TV on DVD! It’s totally a haven. Great article, thanks for sharing!
