I was at my desk doing some writing when I heard a noise on top of the printer above my head. I ignored it the first time but I jumped in shock the second time when I saw what it was – my greatest fear and arch nemesis – the largest brown grasshopper I have ever seen!
I have no idea how it got there or what on earth it was doing, but there was no way I could continue what I was doing under the current circumstances.
When You Know Things Have To Change
Have you ever experienced a time when something totally out of left field occurs and leaves you unable to continue doing things or living the way you had planned?
Whether it be the strong winds of life which continually put pressure on our structures of coping, or whether it is unexpected hurricanes that demolish the natural order around us, there comes a time when you can't continue living the way you did before. What do you do in times like that?
- In the times of pressure do you work harder, stay up later?
- In the times of devastation do you go into crisis mode, spend your time making sure others are OK, worrying about your future or how you will cope?
When the grasshopper appeared out of nowhere, I knew what I needed to do: my parents-in -aw are staying with us at the moment and I went straight to their room and got my father-in-law to come deal with the situation. Even though you might laugh at my fear of these creatures, for me it was a crisis which prevented me from continuing on.
And so I got my father.
When you face those times of pressure or even of devastation, you can do the same thing. Even though there are many courses of action you could take, the first thing you need to do is go to your Dad – your Heavenly Father.
"The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms."
Deuteronomy 33:27
"So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' …for your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:31-33
