Light your candle

Did you sing that song in youth group like I did?

Candles are a great addition to any room.  This is my favorite way to display them.

First, get yourself a big tray of some sort, I prefer a neutral color.

Then bring in a bunch of candles that are different shapes, widths, and heights. They should relate to each other somehow–mine are all neutrals.  DO NOT use stark white–you will regret it!

Now for the fun part!  I change my tray decor for each season!  No big deal I just add stuff that I have from around the house!  Here is spring–nests, eggs, birds.

Summer: shells

Fall: I usually use white pumpkins but they are packed away and this is March and I am lazy.

Winter: berries and feathers

Of course, you can use anything you want–fruit, nuts, flowers, moss, ribbon for birthdays, you could let your children decorate it sometimes with little animals and polly pockets!  Use what you have!

There is only one rule that you must follow:

USE your candles!  Do not ever let a candle sit without at least lighting it for a few minutes! Seeing a new unused wick is a big no no according to those real designers–it's the design equivalent to using plastic covers on your lampshades. Other than the lighting your candle rule, you can do just about anything you want as long as you remember, that it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful!

I have an idea to add….

We didn't have any money to buy firewood this year. I still wanted to have that "fire light" in the fireplace this year. I went to my garage in search of some type of tray to put in the fireplace to hold candles. I found an old broiler pan and took the top slatted sheet out and added some candles. What I love about it is…because it's a metal pan the wax comes right off. I hope this gives someone a cheap idea for a wonderful fire place..LOL!

    Thanks again
    Susan

Great rules! Love the versatility with all the seasonal changes.
I've never seen the point of having candles and not using them :-)

  10. I have to admit, I am a non-burner. But that's only because candles and toddlers do not mix.

But on the rare evening alone…
