Lime Crime Makeup- So Bright it's Illegal! And Yet, Totally Wearable.

When my editor at Blissfully Domestic sent me an email asking if I was interested in reviewing a new make-up line, I said "yes" without even looking to see what the product was. You see, I am a raging product junkie. There isn't a brand I haven't tried. There isn't a website I haven't visited. I want to try it all, and if there is something new, then I want to know about it.

Later on, I went to the site for Lime Crime, and I have to say- I was a little worried. The colors were very bright, which is something I can appreciate on others, but not a look I typically wear myself. But still, I decided to keep my mind open and like Tim Gunn, Make It Work.

When it arrived, I greedily opened my package which contained Magic Eye Dust in Fairy Wings, Empress, and Duchess. It also contained Marie Antoinette blush and a set of brushes. If you check out the site, you can see how bright the color samples are. I was impressed at what an accurate representation of the product is shown on the site. The colors really are true to the sample. That being said, I was still not sure if this was my look. My husband and I had dinner plans for the evening, so I decided to try out the product, specifically the Empress shadow. I had a shirt with deep purple accents in mind that I was planning to wear.

So, I put on my foundation and powder:

Yeah, see. Totally not kidding about getting ready. Also, am brave. And pale.

and got to work.

I dipped a small eyeliner brush in water and dipped it into the purple shadow. Here is my one complaint- the shadows come in small plastic containers and when you unscrew the top, there is no filter for the shadow. This causes the containers to be messy. I much preferred the blush container, which had a small filter that you had to shake the shadow through in order to get a small amount on your brush. No spills!

Moving on, I applied a thin line with the wet brush in lieu of eyeliner. This worked very well. These shadows are highly pigmented, and according to their site, the pigments are comparable to those of MAC shadows. I don't use MAC, but I will say the color I got was quite saturated and deep. For the lids, I used the small angled brush from the brush set to apply a sweep of color over my entire lid:

I also applied a light layer of the Fairy Dust shadow over the Empress to lighten the color just a bit. I then applied the Marie Antoinette blush on my cheeks:

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I was not sure if I would like this product because I was wary of the high pigment shadows. But my fears were unfounded. Not only was the high pigment easy to apply (kudos to the Lime Crime brush set), it was incredibly long lasting. At the end of the night, the shadow looked largely the same as when I put it on. The blush had faded somewhat, but that may be more due to my reticence to go into blush overload than anything else. The color was also surprisingly buildable. You could easily control how deep you wanted the color to be. The color that was applied with moisture was much deeper and the color that was applied with a dry brush could easily be applied light or heavy. The blush was also surprisingly subtle. It looks quite purple in the container (as does it online), but I was able to apply the color such that it looked like a rosy pink.

The entire line can be found at their site LimeCrimeMakeup.com. There is also a great how-to section on the site that covers not only their products, but other make-up concerns as well. Overall, the products were great and definitely encouraged me to try out higher pigments and even colors I would have never thought to try before!
