You most likely know that Target puts its sale and Clearance items on the end caps and in what I like to call "Clearance Row". In my store Clearance Row is along the back wall behind the linens. It is also no secret that the clearance items are in pretty good shape; all the more reason to know when you just might be able to grab the best deal.
Did you know that there is a schedule to when Target marks down certain merchandise? There is and I found out one day by talking to a particularly friendly and chatty sales associate. Use this schedule to find deals while they are hot.
- Monday: Electronics, Kids clothing and Stationary
- Tuesday: Domestics, Food Items, Pets, Women's Clothing
- Wednesday: Health and Beauty, Lawn & Garden, Mens Clothing, Toys
- Thursday: Books, Decor, Housewares, Lingerie, Luggage, Music and Movies, Sporting Goods, Shoes
- Friday: Auto, Cosmetics, Hardware and Jewelry
If the clearance price ends in a '4' (i.e. $1.94) then it is at its lowest price!

just wanted to tell you. I have worked for target for 21 years and on the price accuracy team for 6 years and your markdown days are wrong. Don't know who gave you the info but sorry it's wrong. A couple of them were right.
I prepared the ads to be posted at a Target this summer. This is all wrong. The ads generally all go up on one day (saturday)and old ones will go down that day as well. A few will go during the week. The during the week ads typically are more focused in the entertainment section (cd's and such)
Debbie is right, most of the departments are listed on the wrong day. As for the price ending in "4" having the lowest price, it would be easier just to look at what percentage is marked on the clearance ticket. In small print there will be two numbers above the current price, which shows the current percentage off. Merchandise only goes up to 75% off, though it doesn't normally hang around that long, with the exception of seasonal merchandise which will sometimes go 90% off.
it could be different days for individual stores. when i worked for jc penneys our markdown schedules were completely different from the store located at the mall.
I'm a third voice saying the information is wrong, and I am pretty sure I don't work at the same Target the other two do. This information is posted on hundreds of sites all over the web (and has been for years), and it's still wrong. (I'm so sorry – that sounds awful to say, and I appreciate you trying to help folks.)
