If you want your blog to get "out there," you want others in the blogosphere to talk about you. But what good is it to have them promote your site if you don't know what they're saying?
Here are two things I do to keep up-to-date with internet buzz about Simple Mom.
1. Use Google Alerts

Google can send you an email anytime it finds a word or phrase you want. Head to Google Alerts, and set up the search terms you're interested in.
I have an alert sent to me for the phrases "simple mom," "simplemom," "simplemom.net," and "home management notebook." Once a day, Google sends me an email with links to everything on the internet that was posted that day with those exact words.
2. Use Technorati
Set up a watchlist with Technorati, similar to Google Alerts, except that you can also watch for both keywords and URLs. Set up the phrases you want to watch for, and then subscribe to this feed in your reader.
It feels strange to use the internet to follow all the buzz on you, but it's a great step towards promoting your blog. It helps you network and thank those people who mention you, it provides insight as to who loves your stuff, and it helps streamline damage control, in case there's some negative banter.
How do you keep up with what's being said about YOU online? Please share your ideas!

these are great tips. They will serve me well in my compulsive need to know what's going on behind my back. Thanks!
@manager mom – Glad to help!
I'm a little nervous to find out what people are saying! Ha. I'll give this a try anyway, though. Could be interesting. Thanks! -Julia
I love Google Alerts, but didn't know about the watch list…thanks!
Once, another blogger found me, and I'd just dropped her name in a post. I was so baffled by how she did it. Now I know, and I can do the same. Thanks!
One of the things I love about Blissfully Domestic is how much we can all learn from each other. This is great information, thank you!
i have been experiencing issues with technorati lately. loading times, timing out, i think i may have to stick with google alerts.
