It can be overwhelming if you are just a beginning gardener and especially if you are transitioning from conventional gardening to organic gardening. You may feel like you have no idea where to start. Where does one even find organic seeds? Guess what? You can start in your pantry and literally reclaim your food!

That bag of dried beans you have in your cupboard? The whole grains that you bought because you thought it would be a good idea to grind your own flour? Those fruit pits and seeds that you just tossed in the trash? That garlic you bought ten bunches of because it was on sale and its cold season? The bottoms you cut off of those green onions? The whole spices you bought to grind for that international cuisine? All of these things, if properly handled, can be planted to grow food in your own yard!
So let's get started reclaiming our food!

Be creative and don't be afraid to experiment. Because I wasn't quite sure how it would turn out, I only planted four of each bean I decided to grow. Next season, I will definitely be planting more anasazi beans since my boys just love them and we go through them quickly.
