Packing the Diaper Bag

family Packing the Diaper BagA lot changes during baby's first year, especially the diaper bag!  How will you know what to pack? Here's a run-down of what you'll likely need to tote if you plan on going out for a couple of hours:

Newborn-6 months
Diapers (4-5)
Wipes container (fully stocked)
Changing pad
Hand sanitizer
Burp cloths (3)
Bibs (3)
Bottles of formula (2)
A&D lotion
Toys and rattles
Change of clothes and socks for baby (2)
Aspirator (hubby calls it the "booger sucker")

…and if you're breastfeeding…
Breast pads
Lansinoh cream
Snack
Extra shirt
Blanket or wrap

6-9 months
Diapers (3-4)
Wipes (several)
Changing pad
Hand sanitizer
Bibs (2)
Bottle of formula or pumped breastmilk
Toys that can be easily wiped off
Change of clothes
"Booger sucker"

9-12 months
Diapers (1-2)
Wipes (a few)
Changing pad (in the car just in case)
Hand sanitizer
A small container of Cheerios
Teething ring
…I think that "booger sucker" is still around

What do you recommend packing in your diaper bag?

I Always Pack a Sling , You Never Know When it May be More Convenient to Pop The Babies in a Sling than storller , cart ect.

  2. Sling or MT (regardless of age)
Pacifier (if baby takes one – my DD never did)
diapers (always pack more than you think you'll need – even when they're older just in case you're delayed)
receiving blanket – I use these as changing pads – smaller and wash up nicely.
change of clothes – probably the first five to six months (between spit up or diaper blow outs)
    wipes
Hooter hider and burp cloth (it's small enough to go in the diaper bag all the time, even though I only use it selectively – it makes for a good cover up if you forget a blanket!)
For self feeders – reusable plastic monstrosity that suctions to the table at restaurants.
    toys
    snacks (when appropriate)
crayon roll/coloring book (for the two year old)

So glad I don't have to find room for formula or bottles in there too!

I actually just generally stash a few (cloth) diapers in my purse along with a wet bag. (We never get poopy blowouts, so I don't need an extra sleeper or anything.) For a newborn, I'll bring along a receiving blanket for spit-up and I am always wearing a sling or a wrap. I'm a pretty light packer. :)

Will you see the new Twilight movie New Moon on Friday?
