Perfect Polish: How To Create The Pulled Together Look

fashion and style Perfect Polish: How To Create The Pulled Together Look

Style is about dressing well and maintaining a certain sense of polish. The “just got out of bed look” that fashion icon Kate Moss sports with style is a rarity. It helps when you’re one of the top supermodels of our time and adorned with designer wear.

The rest of us need to be well groomed. Perfect polish does not always come naturally, so here are some tips that make it easy for everyone:

  • Dress well: Wear current clothing that fits well and suits your body type. This might be easier said than done, but all stylish people have great dress sense which makes it top of this list.
  • Stay neat, clean and wrinkle free: Make sure your outfit is ironed, stain free and stays put the whole day. Keep tide to go in your bag to doctor little unexpected mishaps.
  • Wear well cared for clothes, shoes and handbags: “Shabby chic” is hard to pull off, so stick to what’s simple and refrain from wearing anything worn out. Comfortable shoes are hard to find so if your favorite pairs are falling apart, take them to be spruced up. Cobblers can work miracles.
  • Define your lips and eyebrows: Eyebrows frame the face and shaping them is imperative. Nourished lips (gloss or a bit of lipstick) always seem to finish off an outfit.
  • Style your hair: Adopt a hairstyle that is simple, easy to manage and that you can keep down if you want to. A hairstyle that requires you pull it back with numerous hair slides and anything else resembles clutter (especially if they have to compete with accessories), and clutter is not good grooming. If you are going to pull your hair back, a neat low pony tail with a side parting is always classy.
  • Care for your hands and feet: keeping your nails one length is important but wearing nail color on your hands is not. it’s always a good idea to have buffed your feet if you wear open shoes.
  • Take care of your skin: There is nothing more polished than shiny, healthy skin. Splurge on skincare instead of makeup because we only get one chance to take care of our skin. Shaving and waxing regularly adds extra polish.
  • Accessorize correctly: Be mindful of how you match your accessories. Wear pieces that compliment your outfit without resembling a Christmas tree. Take one accessory and make a statement with it.
  • Wear a scent: I’m surprised at how many women prefer not to wear a fragrance. I feel naked without mine and wear the same scent every day. I still receive compliments regularly and enjoy the refreshing whiff of someone else’s sent as he or she walks by. I therefore encourage getting into the routine of wearing a scent daily.
  • Be confident: confidence is an accessory that can’t be bought but is a key part of looking your best. In most cases, you only look as good as you feel. Looking good makes you feel fabulous; but feeling fabulous makes you look even better.

Looking polished is not just for those who need to look professional at work. Aim to look polished all the time, like when you work out, walk the dogs, take the kids to the park, travel, cook, run errands or garden. We were walking our Yorkies yesterday and came across an older, immaculately groomed women who was walking her dog in sporty attire. What a pleasure.

  1. Great advice! Just one caution: please go easy on the signature scent! Many people suffer from terrible allergies and your pleasant whiff is our breathing trauma. Many places (espeically hospitals and dr.'s offices) here in Canada have adopted a scent-free policy. Be aware!

I am the WORST at carrying a handbag long after it's started to fray.

I am lost without perfume. Lost. I have a scent wardrobe so I have one for different outfits, occasions and moods. I do always go easy on it because I can't stand when people bathe in perfume.

    Excellent advice. Thanks!

Will you see the new Twilight movie New Moon on Friday?
