Painting with children when they are little requires a tad more creativity than giving them a set of water colors and letting them make a creation. Little hands want to put things in their little mouths so painting with the yucky stuff can be a big unhappy surprise.
I ran across a fun recipe for pudding paints that fit the bill perfectly. It was made from items that I always have in my pantry and it was made with things that my daughter could put straight in her mouth with glee.
This recipe does call for two cups of water and will give you a super thin paint perfect for brushing paint on paper. If you want something thick that is more like a finger paint, try adding just a little water and work your way up from there to get the finger paint consistency.
Pudding paints can be a fun thing to do on a rainy day or you can pull your child's picnic table outside and let them go crazy with the paints. Make sure your painting spot is close to the hose or sprinklers so they can get nice and clean outside, saving you from that sticky mess that can happen indoors!
Pudding Paint
1 package of instant pudding (3.4 oz)
2 cups ice-cold water (or just a little water at a time to desired consistency for finger painting)
Food coloring
Whisk water and instant pudding together in a bowl for two minutes. Refrigerate for five minutes. Divide pudding into several small bowls or muffin tins. Add five to seven drops of food coloring to each bowl or tin and mix.

We love to paint with pudding! It is just as fun as shaving cream but much more tasty!!!
Awesome Idea! I'm so going to try this with my son.
Well, that is pretty neat! I have never see that before.. editable paint.. Thanks for the idea.. my 3 1/2 wild son.. would love that
Using pudding as a paint is also a great way to get reluctant writers to practice writing their letters. It's so much more fun when they get to be a little silly and messy.
