Ladies, are you ready for the The Love Dare? Let's face this challenge together. C'mon, I dare you to work on improving your marriage!
Day 1: Love is patient – "Love will inspire you to become a patient person." (p.1)
Patience helps you to learn from your mistakes because you slow down, think before you speak, and evaluate the situation. You can see the bigger picture when you act with patience toward your spouse. "Patience helps you give your spouse permission to be human." (p.2)
What struck me as I read this first day was how much we need to be displaying the Fruit of the Spirit in our marriages. Love, joy, peace, patience, and the rest are not only building blocks of our character, but are foundational in our marriages as well.
Day 1 Dare: Resolve to demonstrate patience and to say nothing negative to your spouse at all.
Over the last few years, I have diligently worked at becoming a more positive person. The benefits in our marriage have been wonderful! Treating your spouse in a more positive manner and saying nothing negative really does make a difference in the way that your spouse reacts to you. This is a great dare to start the challenge with!
To me, this means not harping at him when he leaves his dirty socks or dirty dishes in the living room. It means being okay with wiping the counter top after he is done making himself a snack. It means not expecting him to do things with our daughter exactly the same way that I do.
