My name is Jennifer A. and I am a new contributor for Blissfully Domestic. I will be writing a weekly tip/link column to make a mom's life easier. Many times it will be tips that have worked for me from uniforms to vacations to preparing for an emergency. It could also be online links that I love and swear by. When I am not writing here, working, chasing my two kids or tracking down my family tree, you can find me at Toast on the Ceiling.
Your son or daughter just came home with a stack of patches for their Scout/Campfire/Awanas uniform and want you to put them on. Now. But if you can’t sew well or at all, what can you do? There are a few options for moms these days. Paying or bribing someone else to do it for you is not one of them.
A word of caution – find out where the patches go on the uniform before you begin. Most of these methods will become permanent once dry/set and removal can be a pain and time consuming.
Badge Magic. I discovered this product last year and its great for all the participation patches my daughter earns at Daisy Girl Scouts. You cut the Badge Magic material to fit, peel off one side of the paper onthe adhesive and press it to the patch. Then, peel off the other side of the paper and press it to the uniform. It needs to be pressed on and then set it in the dryer for 20-30 minutes, that is all it takes. The Boy Scouts have been using this product for years. Badge Magic even sell template kits to attach the basic patches to a Boy/Girl Scout uniform.
Fabric Glue. I heard this one mentioned, I have not tried it myself. You apply the glue to the back of the patch, press down and let dry.
Iron On Patches. The Girl Scouts offer some basic parts of the uniform and Daisy Petals/Brownie Try Its in iron on versions. They cost a little more than traditional patches, but if the leaders can’t sew either, this may be a good idea for all. Directions come with the patches. All you need is a pressing cloth and a iron.
Office Staples. I knew a mom who did this in a pinch for a meeting. Not a long term option, but if they need the uniform in a hurry and you don’t have time to employ one of the above methods, just remember that the staples should not go through the wash.
Now your son or daughter will have their uniform ready to go in no time and with little effort on your part.

I've been wanting to try the badge magic, but my little guy outgrew his uniform and I had to transfer all his patches to a larger shirt. My seam ripper definitely came in handy! I wonder how the badge magic is with that?
Where can you purchase Badge Magic? At a sewing/craft shop such as Joann's or Michael's?
Badge Magic is available online through their web site. I bought some at a teacher supply store that sold scout uniforms or check your Boy Scout/Girl Scout council shop.
