Using Clipmarks to Enhance Your Online Experience

technology Using Clipmarks to Enhance Your Online Experience Clipmarks is a bookmarking tool that allows you to highlight and save the best portions of a web site. You can "clip" information directly to your blog, to an email, to print, or simply to save to your account. The clips are stored on the Clipmarks server and can be "popped" by other readers who find them useful. Clips that are popped the most are pushed to the front page.

Like other social bookmarking services, Clipmarks saves your favorites and allows you to share them with others. The unique part is that you can clip excerpts from an article (as opposed to just the headline) and display them on your own blog, start page (iGoogle, Netvibes, etc) or social networking account (Facebook, Cre8Buzz, MySpace, etc) with the "ClipCast" widget. You can see the ClipCast widget in action on my Cre8Buzz profile page in the middle of the right column.

How can Clipmarks enhance your online experience and make your browsing, blogging and networking more efficient? In just a couple clicks Clipmarks can:

  • Save and tag the information you find useful.
  • Instantly post the clip source (the URL) to another social bookmarking site of your choice (Del.icio.us, StumbleUpon, etc.), so you spend less time submitting and tagging your favorites.
  • Instantly post your clip to your blog or send it to someone in an email, saving you time cutting and pasting.
  • Instantly update your ClipCast widget, which will then display your clipped info on all your social networking sites where you have the widget installed.

Let's look at an example. You find an interesting blog post. You then click the little clipmarks icon in your browser toolbar and enter "clip mode." Simply highlight the sections of the page that are most interesting (there is a character limit of 1000), then click Save and choose what you want to do with that clip. It's easy, fun, and oddly addictive. (Isn't all of blogging?)

Putting the ClipCast widget on all of your social networking sites keeps your profile pages fresh, keeps your friends updated on what you are browsing and finding interesting, and gives you and your friends blog fodder. This gives them a reason to visit your profile page and your blog more often. And best of all, it's a true time-saver.
