Let Flickr Take You On A Picnik!

I know most of us have photography Let Flickr Take You On A Picnik! accounts, but many probably don't know that Flickr has its own photo editing software!  It's called Picnik, and it has both the free and a paid "pro version".  I'll be covering the free version here, since it does just about everything that you really need.

Getting to Picnik is a breeze.

  • Open the Flickr picture you're wanting to edit.
  • Above the picture, you'll see an option to Edit Photo.

  • Once Picnic opens up, you'll see a series of tools available to you for use on your photo.
  • Hovering your mouse over each tool will give you a quick description of what it does.

First…

  • I'll sharpen the image by selecting sharpen.
  • This brings up a scrolling toll above the picture, moving the slider left to right sharpens the image, and you can preview your work as you do so!

Next…

  • I'll crop the image to help narrow it down to the kids themselves.
  • I'm going to select the crop option above, and it's going to bring up this grid design on the image itself.

  • With this grid, you can select what you want cropped out–the shaded area–and what you want to stay in the picture–the unshaded area.
  • You can also resize the cropping area to whatever it is that you're looking for.

Once we have the image cropped, it just looks like it's lacking in color.  So…

  • I'm going to open the color tool.
  • When you do open this, you'll find that the options you have available to you are Saturation and Temperature.

If you play with these a bit, you'll see that they add and even change the coloring of your image.  Find something that works for you, that helps make your image pop.

  • Once you're done with your image, you can hit save on the right hand side.  This will save your edited image without erasing the original (you can save over the original in the pro version).
  • You can rename the new image, change the tags, the set, the privacy, and the description!

Picnik is a great, easy, no hassle way to get your images cleaned up simply!  I definitely recommend it for those quick fixes!

i love using the picnik.com instead of the edit button on flickr. You can sign up for a free account and access your flickr photos as well as save to other places like your computer, or even myspace. You also get more options. Many that are not available when using picnik through flickr are available through picnik.com with a free account. There are more effects and more fonts types to choose from. Picnik is super easy to use and can make anyone look like a photo editing pro!

Picnik is cool! I tried it for the first time this past week. I actually wanted to improve the color and cropping on a photo I had put into my photostream a looooong time ago (my photo editing has gotten better since then!) b/c I wanted to use it in a current blog post.

It was really easy to just edit the old photo and re-save it so I could use the new, better version. Totally awesome!

Will you see the new Twilight movie New Moon on Friday?
