What do your pet names signify?

Yesterday's article on accidentally shaming our husbands was a tough one. Many of the Extraordinary Wives expressed a bit of guilt. Because I never want anyone to feel bad for long, let's have a fun entry today. We can deal with serious issues later.

An old Psychology professor opened my eyes to a little known phenomenon. One rainy afternoon in an ancient lecture hall he decided to delve into what people's pet names signify in relationships.

"Have you heard someone nickname their spouse baby? There is more to this than you would first think. The spouse that refers to their partner as 'baby' is unconsciously speaking volumes about the dynamic of the marriage."

Since that day I have made it a habit to learn other couple's pet names and observe their interactions. I have yet to decide if the old professor was right. I never used the pet name baby, and I think he is the reason why!

What do you think? Do you think pet names have meaning and give insight into the dynamics in a relationship? And how concerned should I be that my husband nicknamed me Mrs. Fussy Fussypants? :)
