Why should I choose organic?

  • It tastes better
  • It is a healthier for your family
  • It prevents soil erosion
  • It protects water quality
  • It supports small farmers

What if I have a tight food budget?

Making the switch to organic food can be overwhelming and expensive.

Try starting with items your family consumes on a daily basis. Pediatrician Dr. Alan Greene suggests the following list of the top five foods which shoppers can choose to go 'organic' for maximum benefits.

How do I decipher all the different food labels?

  • 100% Organic – exclusively organic ingredients or single ingredient products like eggs, fruit or vegetables
  • Organic – 95% of the product is made of organic ingredients (excluding salt and       water)
  • Made with Organic Ingredients - ingredients are 70-95% organic; organic ingredients are specified on the label
  • Natural does not mean organic. It simply means there are no artificial flavors,       colors or preservatives in the product and it is minimally processed.

By choosing organic foods we are protecting our family's health and enhancing the ecology of the land.

  1. Angie @ Many Little Blessings

This made me giggle, only because every time I have been picking anything from my garden to give to my Mom (it's only been strawberries and lettuce so far in the season), I keep saying things like, "Would you like some of my organic lettuce? How much do you think this would cost at the store?" LOL ;)

  2. I don't remember where I read it (or else I'd give them credit), but I recently read something about if you're trying to go organic but are on a budget. They said to skip the organic items with peels (oranges, bananas, etc.) b/c you peel off the part that would have residue.

  3. The government does not regulate the label "organic" on food. Anything can say "organic", even if it's a gallon of pesticide. 100% organic, organic, organic ingredients, natural, it's all the same.
