Woodworking for kids

Lowe's hardware stores and The Home Depot both offer do-it-yourself workshops for young children. These workshops provide an opportunity for your child to handle and use woodworking tools by participating in the building of their own toy and give you a chance to encourage safety and following directions while spending quality time with your child.
Many of the workshop projects are functional, some decorative, and others playful.  All project kits are free. At The Home Depot, children receive their own apron and, upon completion of their project, an achievement pin.  My daughter proudly displays her pins on her apron.
Get your calendar out and plan a Saturday morning woodworking date with your little ones.   Dads, use this opportunity to take your daughters out.  (After going once with her daddy, our daughter now insists these outings are only for herself and Daddy).
Tomorrow you can build a football goal at Lowe's.   On the 6th of December, an art easel at The Home Depot.  And the one I'm looking forward to, the gingerbread house pictured above at Lowe's on December 13th.
Here are the links to the workshops:

And here are two projects my daughter has completed: flag pole (before the base was covered in paint) and leaf press.
