As a special-needs parent, IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meetings are a part of your life once your child enters the school system. They can be stressful, easy, fast, in-depth, difficult or run-of-the-mill. But one thing is certain – you'll never have the same one twice.
You are your child's best advocate.
It is always best to be as prepared as possible when entering into an IEP meeting, as you are your child's biggest advocate. You must do your homework beforehand and be armed with any and all information possible to make the conference as positive and productive as can be. Your child's progress and school life are at stake.
Now that we are back in the swing of another school year, Dr. Bill Frea, co-founder of Autism Spectrum Therapies, has created another fantastic tip sheet for parents of ASD kids to provide us with strategies for preparing for IEP meetings.
Check back here at Special Needs Bliss on a regular basis to find more of Dr. Frea's helpful and timely tip sheets for families of children on the autism spectrum.
