A Closet Full of Nothing to Wear

parenting A Closet Full of Nothing to Wear

Obviously, having a baby changes a woman's body. Having multiples wreaks all-out havoc on a body. It's not even about the pounds. I could lose every single ounce I've gained and still never look like I used to. For starters, my tummy is like a deflated hot-air balloon. Yeah. It's not pretty. And everything else has shifted to parts unknown. It's…well…deeply depressing at times.

Every day I look in my very full walk-in closet and feel like I have nothing to wear. It's obviously not that I literally have no clothes. No. It's that I have no clothes that make me feel good about myself anymore. It takes me forever to get out the door sometimes. I hear a lot of "Mommy, why you not wearing that purple shirt anymore?" and "Mommy, you putting on a diff'went pants now?" I change over and over and over again, trying to find something that doesn't make me want to throw a shoe at the mirror.

Shopping makes me nuts, too. I get all freaked out by the big sizes I'm having to try on and usually end up leaving empty-handed and frustrated. I've decided to stop looking at numbers. I'm probably never going to be the same size I once was. I've accepted that…for now. So it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to hold onto those old pre-pregnancy clothes. Besides, if they ever DO fit me again they'll be far from in style anymore. So I've been clearing out the old stuff. And instead of worrying about what sizes I'm having to buy now, I'm focusing on buying things that make me feel good. I'm looking for comfortable things that fit well and play up my best features while camouflaging my worst.

I'd rather have a closet with fewer items that actually work than to have this closet full of choices that stress me out! And really? It's much more fun to spend the time getting my kids ready, because anything looks fabulous on them!
