On September 1, 2008 I embarked on a journey of my first 365 Project: I committed to taking a picture a day for a whole year. When the year finished this August 31, I knew without a doubt in my mind that I'd definitely do a 365 again. And since I'm already in the habit of carrying my camera with me everywhere I go – why not keep going?
To look through each of my pictures at the end of the year was a moving experience – all the moments that might have seemed small at the time, became larger than life when I combined them. When the year was complete, I compiled all 365 pictures and had a hard cover book printed by Shutterfly. It's a keepsake I'll treasure.
This year, you are welcome to join me on this journey. We've created a Flickr Group – if you'd like to be a part of the group, we'd love for you to join us.
Some guidelines:
- You don't have to be an expert photographer
- You don't have to have a fancy camera – the bulk of my pictures are shot with a point-and-shoot Canon. The rest? My cell phone!
- You should try to take a picture daily – if you forget one, you don't have to quit or drop out! It's okay. This is for YOU.
- You don't need to upload your pictures daily – sometimes life gets chaotic. I've been known to wait a few days and then upload five at once. That's OKAY!
At the end of 365 days, you will have a unique chronicle of the year you just experienced. Little moments that might have slipped under your radar? Now it's a memory to cherish always. Join us!

I love the idea of 365 and pretty much take a photo a day. It was the uploading every day that made me stop, perhaps if I made myself only upload once a week it would much easier. Will see how it goes.
I love this idea!!! I think I will start this tomorrow with my 11 year old daughter. I have spread my love of photography to her as well. Thanks for writing this.
I am doing a 365 right now! I am on day 322 (today)… I've so enjoyed the experience thus far, and I fully intend to dive straight back in to another 365 when this one is over. I am sure my husband will NOT be pleased (haha), but its been an amazing experience. I read somewhere that when you do a 365, you can see when you are done the things that mean the most to you. At this rate, I seem to love my cats and beer the most. haha!!! But in all seriousness, I plan to actually have more of a theme next time to up the ante a bit for myself. Best of luck to EVERYONE who does this project!! It is definitely a learning experience… not just in photography, but in yourself and your inner self.
I'll be joining in on this. Sounds like a lot of fun.
I've tried a 365 Project a couple of times before, but seem to peter out after month or two. I think I've been trying to be too perfect, taking that perfect picture or worrying about getting them uploaded every day. The next time I try, I promise not to be so hard on myself and to have fun with it. Like you said, this is for me, after all.
It's the first day of a new month and I've been planning to try a 365 Project again, so I think I'll start today. If at first you don't succeed, right?
I'm in and whrrling it!
I love it! I try to scrapbook a family year album, but I'm so far behind. Maybe if I only focus on taking 1 picture per day instead of trying to squeeze over 1000 into an album, I can redefine the purpose and get back on track.
I used to take at least 5 pictures a day, and then stopped somewhere along the way. I LOVE this idea! Especially having them made into a photobook at the end! Can you just choose ONE per day?
There have been times I have struggled to pick just ONE picture from a day of really good shots – and there have been days where I've struggled because I felt I didn't have much to choose from. In those cases, I pick what represents my day best – even if it's not the "best" of the bunch.
sounds fun. going to join the flickr group.
Joining. I think it's something I need to do.
I tried doing this on Jan 1 of this year, along with 10,000 other resolutions, so of course set myself up for failure. Just was looking at the few weeks I did though and it blew me away! All that to say – I'm in! I think that starting now is a great idea.
I am going to give this a try! Signing up for the group now.
i'm in!! I tried this year, starting at january 1…but i just lost track of it, and got discouraged and gave up! then my camera was stolen a few weeks ago…so we're about to get a new camera, and i'd like to do it again to prove that i can stick with it!! so….i'm committing!!!
I so want to be a part of this, with 5 teenagers and twenty somethings, 4 animals and a hubby, life is interesting, would make a nice retrospective of the year as it goes.
Count me in!
Joining the Flicker group
I'd like to play too. Except that I'm really intimidated by you people with camera skillzzzz. I have a camera, not so much on the skillzzz.
Can I still hang out with the cool kids?
I'm intimidated by the every single day part, but I'm in. I'm headed over to the Flickr group.
Do we have a start date?
I started my 365 on Jan. 1. It has been going great. Love it!
You may find my blog post helpful regarding if you want to print your pictures out and put them in an album: http://jessicaturnersblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/365-my-way.html
I am in! Great idea!

I have thought about taking photographs of all the art on roundabouts but never seem to have the time to get round to it. It might be a good theme for one a day.
