Having cancer myself and being 53 years old, I can vouch for having something made for you and the comfort and love that are put in it. I received a prayer shawl once and was so thrilled, I can't tell you.

Now to cover all the sights and smells for a child, well, that is a remarkable gift. Something of your own on your own bed made by love.

This is beautiful Karen. You are a gift. Just like you give to others in memory of your dear loving daughter, others too, can give. You are showing us all the way.

Love Renee xoxo

What a powerful story of the comfort that quilt provided. You are doing something beautiful with your grief...it brings tears to my eyes. I am a bereaved mother too--but a very different story, and most recently a bereaved aunt. You don't think "things" could help...but with the right sentiment, they totally do.

At our church some gals have started a ministry called Common Threads where they make projects for those who are hurting in some way. While they are crafting the blankets, or shawls or whatever project they are making, they pray for the recipient. So the gift comes with lots of prayers as well.

I have currently resurrected my small knowledge of crochet to join in on the chemo caps they are making for our local cancer center. It's been very meaningful to do and pray for the recipient of each cap I crochet.

Great encouragement!!

This post makes me want to go out and learn to sew, to quilt, to do any craft that would help to make the lives of these children more bearable! I especially love the emphasis on doing rather than writing a check -- perhaps that's reason to learn a skill. To learn it for others. This is a remarkable cause in honor of a beautiful, remarkable daughter and her family.
