Peer pressure. Those words conjure all sorts of images of our children being in situations that question the very values we've tried to nurture. And while there is no real way to prevent our children from ever being pressured by their peers, we can take steps toward being more confident in their ability to make wise choices.

So how do we raise kids that don't cave to peer pressure? How do we raise the ones who don't always just follow the crowd?

From getting to know your child's friends to making yourself approachable in the event that he/she needs to talk about some heavy topics, there are ways to be proactive in the fight against negative peer pressure.

The Center for Effective Parenting has some great information on helping your children deal with peer pressure in a positive way. Check it out and then have some conversations with your kids…BEFORE there is a problem…so they (and you) are better equipped to handle what's around the bend.
