I saw Brandi Carlile live in Reno last fall completely by chance. I had never heard of her before, but the tickets were a gift from a friend, so I wasn't about to turn it down. I fell in love at the show. If Johnny Cash were brought back as a woman, with just a twinge more rock and roll influence, Brandi Carlile would be it. In fact, at her show in Reno, she performed a chill-and-cheer-inducing cover of "Folsom Prison Blues."
Suffice to say, I've been looking forward to the release of her new album, "Give Up the Ghost." It's here, it's on my iPod, and it's mind-blowing. Carlile delivers yet again with lyrical content offering a frank look at herself, life, love, and even family with the track "Caroline," written for her niece.
With producer Rick Rubin on the album, and contributions from Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Hill, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Trench, Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls, and Elton John, "Give Up The Ghost" is a powerful album sure to be in heavy rotation on my iTunes. I loved her song "Turpentine" – I'll have to check out her new stuff!
Great peek at the new release. Thanks!
