The Nikon CoolPix S230: A Review

photography The Nikon CoolPix S230: A ReviewI got my hands on a very cool new camera by Nikon, the Coolpix S230, a 10 megapixel with 3 inch touchscreen back panel and 3x zoom.  It comes in so many colors – I had to choose the plum option. Prior to this camera, I was using a much older, blocky 3.2MP Sony Cyber-shot camera the size of a brick, so this was a big change!

The sheer number of options on this camera is staggering.  It has the option to do macro, video filming (with sound) in different sizes, "smile mode," and so many different settings for various scenes, it blows the mind. There's even an auto selector, so the camera can determine the appropriate setting for you.

I know the very thought of touchscreen is somewhat daunting for a lot of people.  I honestly don't have a touchscreen phone because I just know I'll screw it up somehow.  But the Coolpix S230 truly is a fairly simple setup, even coming with a stylus for those of us with unsteady fingers.

With only two buttons on the back it is an easy transition between your point-and-shoot and your photo review modes.  In the photo review mode, you even have some basic photo-editing options for the pictures you take.

If you gave me an ultra-fancy camera with detachable lenses and filters and whatnot, I would be all thumbs with it, and never get a decent picture to save my life.  But this camera is incredibly user friendly! Even my husband, who could never get a clear picture to save his life with our old camera, was able to figure out this one.

If you're looking for a fun, easy-to-use, casual shooting camera, this is it.
Its ultra-sleek design, touch-screen capability, and small size and portability makes the Nikon Coolpix S230 the best friend a mom could have!
